How many times have you looked at social media feeds and wondered how people make them look so wonderful? If they are full of infographics, then there is a good chance they have used Canva.
We often talk to our clients about Canva, and our love of it. It’s so easy to use and really does take out a lot of the hard work of creating something eye catching content for your social media?
Remember this? Yes, this was created on Canva.
Why use Canva?
The most important thing to know is that you can get away with using the free version for a lot of what you would need for an exciting social media feed.
We always advise that you don’t part with your hard earned cash for anything unless it’s really worth it. Yes, there is a paid for version, which allows you to have more flexibility like importing fonts, and resizing; but we don’t think you need that when you are starting out!
If you’re a social media manager, then you may need to consider the paid for version; but this is only about £10 per month.
You can either use it on an app, or on the web. This makes it super portable and easy to create unique imagery on the go. It also allows you to build up a library which can be easily shared between colleagues, and across platforms.
Don’t just take our word for it. At the time of writing, there were over 10 million users who are creating magical content.
What can you do in Canva?
Pretty much every social media platform is catered for on Canva, plus other things like flyers and even album covers.

They are all perfectly sized which takes the guesswork out of making sure that your canvas is the right size.
Not only do you get a pre sized canvas, you also get lots of different design templates for free which you can use, not to mention free images and graphics which you can slot into your design. There are some that you need to pay for, but they start from $1, which is great value.
We designed logos, leaflets and flyers on there really easily and quickly.
Creating images is so easy!
It really is! You can log in with either Facebook or google, and then you are straight into your design screen.
We used Canva for our recent social media post to publicise our blog on passwords.

This was basically made by picking a background image, changing the transparency of that image, and then adding the text on top. We know that sounds like a lot, but probably about 10 mins work max!
It also allows you to import your own images – so we did just that with the bear head from our logo!
You have a choice of file formats to download in. So for example if you’re making a flyer, you can download your work in a print pdf format. This can then be used by printers etc.
Are there any downsides?
We can’t really think of any.
It’s super easy to learn, there are tutorials out on their site and also on YouTube.
Yes, there is a chance that someone could be using the same images as you; but there are so many different permutations of images and fonts, the chances of seeing the same content is small.
If you are looking at making a logo, or really complex designs for print; then you would be better off getting in touch with a graphic designer. There are ways to do this in canva, but your logo is one of the most important parts of your brand and needs to be right!
