Frequently Asked Questions About WordPress Managed Hosting

What exactly does “managed hosting” mean, and why would I choose it?

Managed hosting means we take care of all the technical hosting stuff so you can focus on running your business instead of worrying about servers, security, and technical updates.
What we handle for you:
– Server maintenance and monitoring
– Server backups (so your site can be restored if something goes wrong)
– SSL certificate setup and renewal
– Domain management (if you want us to handle renewals)
– Technical troubleshooting/liaising when issues arise
What you don’t have to worry about:
– Server updates or configurations
– Server security patches and monitoring
– Server backup schedules and storage
– Technical hosting jargon you don’t understand
– Missing domain renewal deadlines (if you want us to handle renewals)
The alternative – unmanaged hosting: With regular unmanaged hosting, you’re responsible for everything technical. You’d need to technical server issues yourself or liaise with your hosting provider, manage backups, and understand server configurations. For many small business owners, this is either impossible or a time drain they can’t afford.
Why choose managed hosting: Simply put, it’s peace of mind. You get a website that’s looked after by WordPress specialists who know exactly what to look for and how to keep things running smoothly. You can still access the control panel if you want to, but you don’t have to deal with the technical headaches.
It’s like having an IT person on call, except for a fraction of the cost of actually employing someone.

How do I know which hosting package is right for me?

This is a common question, and choosing the right package depends on what your website actually does and how much traffic it gets.
Choose Value Hosting if:
– You have a basic brochure website with just a few pages
– Your traffic is low (typically under 1,000 visitors per month)
– You’re not running an online shop or membership site
– You don’t need lots of email addresses (3 is enough)
– 5GB of storage covers your needs (plenty for text and moderate images)
– You want the most affordable option for a straightforward site
Choose Standard Hosting if:
– You have a medium-sized website with more pages and content
– You get regular traffic (several thousand visitors per month)
– You have a blog that you update regularly
– You need more email addresses (up to 6 included)
– You have more images, videos, or downloadable files (10GB storage)
– Your site has more complex functionality
Choose Premium Hosting:
– High-traffic e-commerce sites processing lots of transactions
– Large Learning Management System (LMS) platforms
– Sites with massive amounts of media files or downloads
– Websites expecting thousands of daily visitors
If you’re not sure, we’re happy to look at your website and advise which package would work best. And if you outgrow your package as your business grows, we can upgrade you easily – you’re not locked into one option forever.
Still uncertain? Start with Value. If it turns out you need more resources, we can upgrade you to Standard without any hassle.

What does “run on renewable electricity” actually mean for my website?

This is something we’re genuinely proud of – all our hosting packages run on 100% renewable electricity from sources like sun, wind, and sea power.
What this means practically: Every website uses energy. When someone visits your site, servers need power to store, process, and deliver your content. Traditional hosting companies often use electricity generated from fossil fuels, contributing to carbon emissions.
Our hosting provider uses data centers powered entirely by renewable energy sources. This means every time someone visits your website, the environmental impact is significantly reduced compared to traditional hosting.
Why it matters: The internet’s carbon footprint is substantial – if it were a country, it would be the 6th largest polluter globally. By choosing green hosting, you’re actively reducing your business’s environmental impact.
The business benefit: Beyond doing the right thing environmentally, green hosting resonates with customers. More people are making purchasing decisions based on a company’s environmental credentials. Being able to say your website runs on renewable energy is a genuine point of difference.
No compromise on performance: Some people worry that green hosting might be slower or less reliable. That’s not the case. Renewable-powered data centers are modern, efficient facilities that often perform better than older, fossil-fuel-powered alternatives.
We’re happy to provide more information about our renewable hosting if you’d like specific details about the energy sources and certifications.

Can I transfer my existing website to your hosting, or is this only for new sites?

You can absolutely transfer an existing WordPress website to our hosting! We help people move from other hosting providers regularly.
The transfer process: Moving your website sounds scary, but we handle it for you. The process typically involves:
– Creating your hosting account with us
– Transferring your website files and database
– Testing everything works properly on our servers
– Updating your domain to point to the new hosting
– Ensuring email accounts are working correctly
What you need to do: Provide us with access to your current hosting and tell us when you’re ready to move. We handle the technical aspects. We’re also happy to liaise with your current provider for you.
Will my website go offline? We minimise downtime as much as possible. Typically, there might be a brief period (minutes to a couple of hours) during the domain transfer where your site isn’t accessible, but we plan this carefully and can often do it during low-traffic periods.
What about my emails? If your email isn’t hosting externally (like Google Workspace or Microsoft 360), we’ll set up your email accounts on our hosting and can help you migrate existing emails if needed. Our Value package includes 3 email addresses, and Standard includes 6. If you need more, we can discuss options.
Domain transfer: You can keep your domain where it is and just move the hosting, or we can manage your domain renewals for you so you never miss a deadline. Your choice.
Cost for transferring: The hosting packages are the same price whether you’re starting fresh or transferring an existing site. However, if you need hands-on help with the actual migration work, we can do this for you – just ask for a quote based on your specific situation.
Not sure if your site is suitable? Send us your website URL and we’ll take a look. We can tell you which package would suit your site and provide a quote for any migration assistance you might need.
Already have hosting elsewhere and happy with it? That’s fine too! We build websites that work with any reputable hosting provider. Our hosting packages are completely optional – choose them if they make sense for your needs, not because you feel obliged to.
